First, I get clear on my student's goals. Based on what I hear I may help them define additional or more specific goals. I analyze their learning style and adjust accordingly. I use tested methods to deliver information in a multitude of ways including printed hand outs, demonstrations, hands on activity, recommended videos, etc.
I began my education at Dawn Til Dusk Makeup School where I was certified. I was trained and certified by MAC Cosmetics in 2006. I completed the Body Of Art Leadership Program for MUAs in 2012. I became certified in Basic Teaching Methods in 2017. I continue to educate myself through various trade shows and workshops including 'l'm Going To Class' by Erica Carr. And I have studied as a mentee under agency artist Hector Simancas for several years.
Every client is different. The lessons and packages are customizable. Variables taken into account are level, time, and travel distance.
I have always been a natural teacher and I worked with children for many years prior to makeup. Officially I began teaching makeup while working at Alcone Professional Makeup supplier. I saw an opportunity and created the Continuing Education Program. From there I began teaching regularly at Nina MUA school.
I have worked with beginners who have no background or interest in professional makeup and I have worked with existing professional makeup artists. I have worked with all ages and experience levels as well as some who speak little English.
Make sure they have a website. Look at their work on their social media platforms to see that they are current and have a style that emulates what you want to learn. And lastly, seek out someone who is not only a great artist but a teacher/coach as well.
What education do they have? How many students have they worked with? Do they have a referral? What have they achieved in their own career? What is their teaching style?
