Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin the process with a conversation around the student's needs, interests and goals. I then create a plan for realizing these goals that will include time structure, materials, a syllabus with lesson plans defined, and will research the scope, style, and technique to assist the student in realizing their creative ambitions. We will have an initial consultation conversation to determine these goals and will solidify details and direction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MFA, School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University, 2016
BA, Studio Art and Arts Management, College of Charleston, 2008
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a passion for teaching art and started teaching while a student at the College of Charleston. After graduating, I began teaching at Redux Contemporary Art Center and organized and led numerous group workshops and private lessons in galleries, public venues, and my private studio for six years in Charleston, SC. I gained extensive experience teaching a variety of courses to a range of ages and skill levels ranging from figure drawing and painting to advanced professional students, to a variety of painting and drawing classes to children, and to adult students just getting started.
I then moved to Boston, MA where I earned my MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University and continued teaching lessons to a variety of skills levels and ages.
I love teaching and mentoring students, sharing my passion for art, my expertise and knowledge of art history and contemporary trends, techniques and materials, new ideas and creative impulses. And I love to watch my students grow, find their own creative voice, make new discoveries.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students from mid to advanced career professional adults to all age children from pre-school to high school, college students just beginning, adults just beginning, emerging young artists at the cusp of their career. I have a flexibility with teaching and can adapt to students needs, interests, skills levels and experience. Art can be picked up at any level and age, and I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable and encouraged to develop at their pace with their unique interests and experience.
