What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I’m always interested in tailoring the lessons to their interests. Generally I would first have a conversation about the students experience, goals, and interests. I will look at their work and develop a specific curriculum based on what the student wants to learn and what they can improve upon.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MFA from Pratt. I teach art at LaGuardia Community College. I have taught many private students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
60 an hour for drawing, 80 an hour for painting and sculpture. 90 minute minimum for drawing, 2 hour minimum for painting
How did you get started teaching?
I was a TA in grad school
What types of students have you worked with?
children, adolescents, adults, retirees, people with disabilities.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do your research, be specific in what you are asking for, make sure the teacher has a sizable web presence. Look at their CV.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The more specific the better. They should think about what they want to learn
