Hello and thanks for visisting.

I absolutely love teaching people of all ages and on all skill levels as I have over 20 years of professional photography experience in NYC.

I have had the pleasure of being a guest instructor to the prestigious Art Director's Club NYC for three years and have thaught a wide range of subject matter, from lighting and technical photogrpahic aspects to aesthetic and philosophical approaches. Photography has been a means for me to creatively express my world view and share it with the world. I have had the pleasure of working with people from all walks of life thoughout the world and appreciate the experience of creating and collaborating.

Teaching as such, has allowed me to empower my students, to allow them to find their creative voice and expresss it through the photographic medium.

    For a long time now I have been meaning to develop my photography skills but had no real idea how. Although online classes and tutorials can be somewhat helpful, I realized that nothing beats having someone teaching you the tools and techniques of the trade in person, especially if that someone is as skilled and talented as Payam. With Payam’s help, I’ve not only developed my skills as a photographer, but I’ve also become a better artist. Beyond teaching the basics of photography like lighting, or what lenses work best in a given situation, he also showed me how to see the world in a whole new light. By working with him and on the challenges he’d assign me, my photography skills have improved by leaps and bounds. He’s incredibly fun to work with and is a great communicator. If you honestly want to grow as a photographer and an artist, or if you just want to learn the basics, then give Payam a call! I cannot recommend him highly enough!!!

    Payam truly understands how to construct the best lighting for portraits. He has a very deep knowledge of professional lighting and how to use specific lenses to create the look I want. With Payam, I learned how to properly light a photograph. Photography, after all, is writing with light. He is also a lot of fun and genuinely cares about people. I learned a lot and most importantly, feel that I have become a better photographer with a deeper understanding of the art and science of pictures.

    Frequently asked questions

    I take a call or meet in person and ask the student to bring their top 10 photos. 

    After reviewing their work, I ask my students about their goals with their work, and come up with an actionable plan on how we can achieve these goals. 

    I encourage my students to work off of their strengths and empower them to harness that energy to move forward with their work. 

    I've been working in the field of photography for over 20 years and started apprenticing with the world famous Annie Leibovits. 

    After working with Annie, I assisted many world famous photographers, where I learned all aspects of the photographic process. 

    After becoming a member of the ADC, I was asked to give lessons to it's memebers over a few years.

    In addition, I have given talks at San Francisco Arts Institute, as well as Brooks Institute of Santa Barbara.
