What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is to meet and asses where they are musically. Once we have established that I prepare a plan that will meet their individual needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I had a Doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music and was a professor there for many years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am flexible in my pricing depending on the financial situation of every student. That being said my lowest rate is $75 per hour based on my experience, etc.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching since I was an undergraduate in New York. I love teaching and sharing the gift of music with others.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students from absolute beginners to world class artists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was recently in San Diego performing for over 3,000 people outside - a different and fun event!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is imporant to have your goals and expectations thought through before selecting a teacher. Also important to be honest and open when you meet with them as that will ensure a better working relationship and personal connection.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Questions shoudl include what is your teaching style, how do u formulate goals for each individual student, what kind of music you want to learn, what your long term goals are - eg. I want to be able to play a certain song or I want to be able to play anything, etc.
