Ellen L. Gilmer is a published author, speaker and performance artist living in New York City. She has spoken and performed internationally and enjoys sharing her experiences with others. She has published two books with the Pentland Press Ltd. and Carnegie Publishing Ltd. in England: 'La Belle Famille', a novel, and 'Free Style Run of the Heart', a book of dramatic monologues with poetic songs, and she is now an active KDP Amazon publisher. Her third book, 'Song Poems from the Cumulus Cloud and Creative Essays', was published by Create Space, an Amazon company. Ellen is also a journalist-correspondent for the International Press Association, a copywriter and business writer. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start the first session with a discussion to get acquainted with the student. Discovering each student's ideals, natural talents and ultimate desires and goals for writing at our first meeting is exciting. This discovery is also, I think, truly essential for effective and enjoyable writing instruction and guidance.

BFA Degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Professional Copywriting Certificate from AAWI (American Artists and Writers Institute)
Journalist-Correspondent for the International Press Association
Author of three books, numerous articles on varied subjects and reviews of performing arts events and art exhibitions.

I charge flexible fees to be arranged according to each student's writing instruction needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I started by offering writing lessons to students of varied ages while I was in college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have had the opportunity and pleasure of working with children, teenagers and adults in different areas of creative and business writing.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was very pleased and gratified when a young adult student for whom English is a relatively new language progressed with her business writing skills and won a promotion at her job.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choose a teacher who shares your enthusiasm for your favorite area, genre or style of writing.
