Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask what the goal of the student are. I get a baseline of what skills and ability the student already possess. I make sure the student is healthy for physical activity and modify the drills and training sessions accordingly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a varsity volleyball coach ( both men's and women's for over 20 years). I also coach club volleyball, I have dozens of former students and players that have gone on to play in college and a few who have played at the AVP( beach volleyball) professional level. I am verified in CPR and AED. I also have CAP 1 USA Volleyball certification.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is 50 dollars per hour for one on one sessions, 75 dollars for 90 minutes. If they are group lessons, the rates drop to 40 dollars for an hour and 60 dollars for 90 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching after receiving my Master Degree in Physical Education and Exercise Physiology. My passion for volleyball came from playing beach volleyball and then I started coaching varsity volleyball at the school I teach at.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with kids from 10 years old up to Division one college athletes.. I have also worked with mentally and physically challenged students to enjoy and love the game.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event that I am fond of is having a mentally challenged student become a varsity athlete on my team. I was able to get this young man in a game and actually serve an ace in a league game. I was also fond of watching my former student play in an AVP event against Misty May and Kerri Walsh( she didn't win, but it was actually close, that was awesome)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Have goals in mind and achieve them through hard work. You also need to enjoy the process and have fun.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their goals are, what their starting point is , are those goals realistic, short term and long term goals
