Annette Farrington Flute Studio
About
I've had the privilege of guiding students of all ages and abilities to a better knowledge of performing music through the beautiful instrument called the flute for over 30 years. After waiting to start to play the flute in the ninth grade, I fell in love with the commaraderie and joy of music making with others. Without a proper flute teacher until I entered college, I had developed many bad habits that delayed my progress. It's been my goal to help young flutists avoid those mistakes as well as help more advanced students make and achieve their musical goals.
Since moving to Rochester almost 20 years ago, my studio includes students from ages 8-80 including adjunct teaching at Nazareth College for 10 of those years. I am fortunate to play in this vibrant musical community as principal flute with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Cordancia Chamber Orchestra, the Greater Rochester Women's Philharmonic and many other free-lance opportunities. I have been passionately involved in the Rochester Flute Association serving on the board as President, Corporate Membership Director, and Newsletter Editor. I am also a NYSSMA adjudicator.
It's just plain fun!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet with students for an introductory lesson at no obligation to continue. For young students, parents are welcome to observe this lesson and any lesson at any time. Here I will chat and get to know the student. After listening to them play, I can determine the best strategy for helping them to improve and grow. Each student has their own needs and I like to tailor lessons to match that individuality.
