About
My teaching approach:
I center my teaching approach around the student. Whatever the students goals, desires, strengths, and weaknesses, I incorporate this into what and how I teach that individual.
My influences are:
Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Bill Frisell, Robert Fripp, Maceo Parker, Thelonious Monk, JS Bach, L Shankar
My guitar lessons take place in:
The teacher's studio or the student's home
Guitar Techniques:
Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
Two things. First: asking questions. What do you want to be able to do as a guitarist? What skills do you want to develop? What are your goals as a musician? Are you a beginner or have you been playing for a while? Second: observing. What do I hear lacking in your playing, or what is holding you back. It could be technical, maybe learning to use the left hand more efficiently, or rhythmic, or just knowing more about music and the neck layout.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
It varies depending on the students needs and goals. In the early lessons I do my best to determine what you wish to do musically and what approach will get you there quickest. In general, I make a point of having you do some playing in the lesson, and not have it be like a dry lecture. Some of the best things are learned through experience, so I make sure you get experiences that move you toward your goals.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
I don't care what level the student is at, what I enjoy is teaching a student who is enthusiastic and has a desire to improve. My favourite students are the ones who tell me what they want to get better at, and when I give them a method to get there, they follow it through.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I assess the students goals, and then their strengths and weaknessess, so that I cna determine the best means of helping them achieve their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've not only taken a lot of lessons and classes with some fantastic teachers, I also have extensive performance, composing, recording, and band-leading experience.
And I have a degree in psychology, for what that's worth.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
