About

Hi! I'm Nancy, an experienced adult ESL instructor. I work with non-native English speakers to train their American English Accent through live, private, one-on-one lessons and live courses on Zoom.

If any of these situations describe your experiences and your goals, we should chat ...

... You know that what you just said in English was absolutely correct, but your American conversation partners didn't understand you, and you don't know why. The conversation ended quickly or you sensed impatience.

... Do you want to advance in your career and confidently deliver presentations, speak in meetings, express your opinions, speak to management, stakeholders, and clients?

... Do you want to continue your education and to advance your employment opportunities?

... Do you want to socialize more easily with work colleagues and clients, with friends and neighbors?

Know these 3 things:

1. You ARE NOT ALONE!

2. You ARE CAPABLE of training and learning to speak American English so you are easily understood - and so you can better understand native American speakers!

3. With me as your American English Guide, you will speak American English with GREATER CONFIDENCE!

    Frequently asked questions

My lessons are customized for each student. I meet with new students on Zoom and that first meeting is free. It will be about 45-60 minutes, and its purpose is to identify areas for us to work on, for you to understand how the training happens, for me to understand your goals, and for both of us to decide if we are a good fit. A 60-minute lesson once a week is usually enough to make progress. Then, with daily practice of no more than 10-15 minutes, students see real improvement, and you will, too. You will learn by doing, not just by reading or listening. You are developing new habits, which can feel a bit strange at first, but using patience as a guide leads to the best results – just like starting a new workout at the gym.
I have a Bachelors degree, and I am CELTA-certified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I am also certified by the State of Connecticut to teach English to Non-Native Adult Speakers of Other Languages. successfully completed the two-part training in Connecticut's Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. In addition to teaching American Accent Training and ESL in private lessons and courses to adults, for the past 5 years I've been teaching an ESL course on Career Preparedness, which includes self-exploration of accomplishments and goals, resume writing and interview preparation. My website is a "work in progress" right now, and I intend to launch it in 2024. I am an active lifelong learner and regularly attend webinars on Accent Training, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, teaching techniques, teaching tools including online tools and AI, and learning activities.
The base price for a full one-hour American Accent Training session is $60. If you prefer a shorter lesson, I am flexible and we can discuss that as well. I do not recommend Accent Training sessions longer than 1 hour. Students who want more than one lesson a week or to pay for a package of lessons in advance receive a discount, so ask me about that.
My personal experience feeds my passion for teaching English. In my late 20's I moved with my husband to Germany where we lived for 16 years. I did not yet speak German when we arrived. I know what it takes to settle into a new country, language, and culture while wanting to fulfill professional and personal goals. I was determined, I worked hard, and it was SO worth it. I became fluent in German, could conduct business in German, and built a career and lifetime friendships. While in Germany, I first started teaching English to native German speakers, both in adult education programs and private lessons to adults and middle/high school students. After my return to the U.S., I again began teaching English to adults and have been doing this -- sometimes more, sometimes less -- over the years. I love it! I've been teaching English to adult speakers of other languages here in the U.S. for the past 5 years, but my experience goes back to when I lived in Germany where I first started teaching English to native German speakers, both in adult education programs and private lessons to adults and middle/high school students. Most of my students want to improve their educational and job opportunities and those of their family members. I teaching both privately and in adult education programs. Many of my students are professionals, others are starting out in the work world. I have had the great pleasure of working with students from over 35 countries.
Take the time to be sure the teacher is someone you feel comfortable with, who ... ... is patient and clear, ... understands your goals and what you are looking to achieve, ... can give you an honest and realistic idea of what kind of progress you'll make, ... makes learning both challenging and enjoyable.
What are your goals? What do you want to achieve? What do you think your greatest challenges are? Can you attend classes consistently. What qualities do you think a good teacher should have?
