About

If people(clients) want to know why and how I take their photographs, I explain it to them in ordinary, everyday language.

Sure, I get carried away taking pictures, but then I hope the feeling is contagious.

I was a video cameraman for 25 years before concentrating on photography, shooting film only until about ten years ago.

I believe budding photographers should start their journey by setting their camera to (m) Manual. If this does not work for you, perhaps I'm not the right person to be your instructor.

I've been teaching as long as I've learned from other photographers.
Early on, I taught workshops at Young Filmmakers Video Arts, B&H Photo, The New York Business Library, and Unique Photo. Now, I prefer people who have more of a taste of life.
The Newport Jazz Festival, where I am surrounded by a diverse group of people who immerse themselves in the music.
Observe the light and see the shadows it creates. Shadows are important because they enable depth in your images. Study the photographic masters and imagine where the light in the image is coming from. When you look at an image that moves, you try to determine what the photographer was trying to accomplish. What did he or she want you to pay attention to first, second, and third? Don't listen to anyone telling you there is only one right way to do anything.
What do you expect you will get from taking a photographic image?
