About

My lessons are uniquely tailored to meet the needs of each of my students. My passion for the art of Music and the roll the bass plays in a group is something that I enjoy passing on to every student.

The bass is an instrument that bridges the gap between the drums and guitars, keyboards, horns and other chordal instruments and as such it has to be rhythmic as well as melodic, it's got to be tasteful. My compositions can be heard on ITunes as well as CDbaby and reverbnation, just search for my Fusion group "Billy Panic" or stop in at "The Peddler" Monday night open jam where I'm the house bass player. Enjoy....

I learned to read chord charts as well as write my own walking bass lines. The blues were lots of fun and I learned to write my own songs.

    Frequently asked questions

I simply ask a student what their specific goals are and how much time they have to achieve them. After that I tailor my lessons to the meet the goals and time line as expressed by the student.

I've studied at Berklee as well as Berklee online studies. I've played bass for Jeremy Steig and a myriad of other blues and contemporary players passing through the NY area. I've have been and and currently are the house bassist at a weekly open jam where I'm confronted with all styles of music as well as players of all levels. I continue my own studies daily on both upright well as electric bass both fretted and fretless. I never stop learning.

I don't have a standard pricing system because there are no standard players. Different players have different needs. Some need to learn the fundamentals and some need to merely "connect the dots" to fulfill their potential in the immediate. I believe we never fully reach our Zenith because there's always more to learn.

I started teaching as way to share my solid foundation  of scales Arpeggios and fretboard harmony. Then quickly realized that I could benefit as well by constantly being challenged by students to explain ever more difficult musical concepts. It's not a one size fits all approach and teaching is not for everyone but learning certainly is.

I've worked with all types of players from day one novices to intermediate players who were taught short cuts and bad habits as well as advanced players who just need to "connect the dots" in their own highly stylized methods.

My most enjoyable musical experience involves jamming with players who only need a little push to fully reach their immediate potential. As a house bassist at a busy open jam I'm often In a positive position to give players the little nudge they need to get to the next plateau in their musical development.

Be ready to work and stretch your perception of what your capabilities are. Practice doesn't make perfect buy it makes you very good and being a good player is a feeling of gratification that follows us through every aspect of our lives.

The first thing any student needs to ask themselves is do they have the time to actually sit and practice and develop an intimate relationship with their instrument. Each player is a unique individual with a unique voice on the instrument and realizing their potential takes dedication,an open mind and time. For those who choose to move forward it's always time well spent.
