About

Bob Ross style wet-on-wet oil painting from a Certified Ross Instructor. Experience the Joy of Painting! Yes, you can paint! (website for upcoming classes - www.yesyoucanpaint.com )

I teach longer (5hr) group workshops for full-sized (16x20) paintings to allow plenty of time to provide individual help so you go home with a masterpiece you will be glad to display.

I do offer introductory classes and youth classes using the same techniques but with smaller (16x12) canvases and less complex compositions. These are typically 2 1/2 to 3 hr classes!

I really enjoy helping students learn Bob’s techniques and the surprise and joy they experience when a simple brush stroke or knife sweep creates something that surprises them.

Gary was patient and knowledgeable. Twice I thought my painting was beyond repair, but Gary, with his calm demeanor, showed me that all was okay and how to take what I thought was a huge mistake and with a few brush strokes turn it into a thing of beauty. Gary truly showed me how much joy painting can bring to your life.

Gary is a very patient instructor and always willing to help if you ask him. A blank canvas can be intimidating but Gary explains the step by step process in easy to understand terms and we always have a few laughs!

    Frequently asked questions

In small group classes, we each work on your own Bob Ross oil painting together.  Using the same wet-on wet process that Bob Ross used on his Joy of Painting show, we build a finished masterpiece step by step.

I work with each student individually as they complete each step.

One of the great things about oil paint is that if we don't like something we have done like a tree, we can scrape it off right away and try it again.

I charge $62 for a single 16x20 painting in a group setting. With all painting supplies furnished.  You provide a roll of paper towels and a pack of baby wipes.  At some locations, I require you to buy a canvas as the retailer is providing the classroom space for free.  You go home with a finished painting at the end of class!

I teach classes each month on a Saturday at Hobby Lobby Eastgate, Mason, and Hamilton. See website for upcoming dates - www.yesyoucanpaint.com or call me at 513-476-2270

Private classes are available at the same price but a minimum of three paying students.

I also do private groups such as art clubs, church groups, or other locations.  Pricing for these groups would depend on the size and complexity of the painting and any costs for the use of the building.

I have been a fan of Bob Ross style painting for decades.  Because of other time commitments, I never took up a brush.  A few years ago, my wife and I began to take classes as a time to spend together doing something we enjoyed.  We quickly learned the difference between teachers who tried to cram a painting into a 2 hr class and those who slowed down and took 4-5 hrs to be able to help us individually. The difference was a painting that hangs on our wall rather than stacked in the closet.

All ages - 14 years old and up.  Younger than 14 with a parent/guardian also painting.  All experience levels.

I love to see a younger painter produce a finished painting that is as good as their parent.

Recently, we had a “Bob Ross night” at the Cincinnati Redast springs. 123 painters painted a 12x16 painting before a ball game. Each participant also received a Bob Ross bobble head wearing a Reds uniform jersey.

Fun time for all and some nice paintings.

Find a teacher that makes the painting fun!  Too many times instructors agree to short classes and this just cuts into the time for individual instruction and ultimately impacts the quality of the student’s finished painting.

Do I want to study art, or create a painting and have fun as I learn?

Does the instructor provide all the tools including paint?
