About

I have a BFA degree in illustration & a minor in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and have been teaching private art lessons since 2000. My art has placed in juried art shows & have been an invitational judge for student portfolio competitions and other juried shows. I've participated in community art projects and taught workshops in various art mediums in addition to teaching my students.

Many of my students have gone onto art careers. I am a small in-home studio so turn over is slow, but things are always changing and time slots occaisonally open up. We have also had many art shows exhibiting my students' work throughout the local area. To view my art as well as my students, my website is: www.artisticeyesstudio.com.

I enjoy watching my students' talent grow and improve over time eventually developing into their own unique style. Most of my students continue with me for many years, so it's very rewarding to see them experiment, achieve goals, recieve awards & recognition and go on to art careers. Having them constantly improve is so exciting for me and it gives them a sense of pride and confidence in themselves.

    Frequently asked questions

I first determine their skill level- beginner, advanced etc. I focus on the basics- value drawing, how to render/shade on object, seeing simple shapes, contour drawing, mirror imaging for symmetry etc. I also require students to keep a working sketchbook & draw at home so I can then view them each week. I start students with graphite, then charcoal, oil & soft pastel, colored pencil then into painting. I only accept dedicated, committed students who are willing to seriously improve their skills.

I have a BFA in illustration & a minor in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Lessons are 1 to 1&1/2 hr./week on an on-going basis all year. I charge for the full month up front with no refunds, but the student can make up the lesson at another time if they need to cancel. HOURS ARE MON.-THURS. anywhere from 3:30-6:30, with the last lesson ending at 6:30. THERE ARE NO LESSONS ON WEEKENDS. Some of my adult students come earlier in the day depending on my availability.

A friend of mine had a daughter that was intrigued with the work I had in my studio & she asked if I could give her some art lessons. I started with her & by word of mouth it went on from there. As my student base grew, I established a website, started advertising and became a ligitimate business.

Ages 8 through 70. All grade levels, home schooled children, students with no art classes available at their school because of budget cuts. I've helped students with their portfolio to submit to art schools & scholarships.

A student who came to me for years, got accepted & is attending the Cleve. Institute of Art, my alma mater. Also the last public exhibition show casing all my students' work at Penitentiary Glenn Nature Center was very well recieved by the public.

You have to feel comfortable with the instructor & that they can be an inspiration to your creative needs. Also that they can instruct you in the area of the arts you want to excel in. They should be able to guide you to find your own visual voice.

What do you want to do with your art? Do you want to sharpen certain skills in one medium or many? What do you want to say or comminicate with your art? Are you considering art as a career or a hobby?
