I teach all Brass instruments 4th-12th Grade.
I prioritize fundamentals! And I pride myself on making sure the student has the tools to do whatever they wish to do on the instrument. Intertwined with the fundamentals is a keen sense of music making.
The biggest takeaway about my teaching is I make sure that the student knows how to teach themselves! An instructor can give you the tools but if they don't show you how to use them your craft will not be developed.
I enjoy getting a student to a point where they can improve and get through a challenge without coaching. I know I'm getting through to students when that starts to become their m.o.
