I'm a self taught artist and teach children ages 8-18. I have been teaching children's classes at Peninsula Art Academy in Peninsula for 7 years and also private lessons at local libraries.
"Improve Your Skills" benefits the young budding artist who spends time drawing/sketching but is rewarding for the beginner as well. Young artists will be inspired by receiving instruction in gray scale, shading, blending, texture, and different techniques using a range of pencils. Composition, balance and perspectives will be taught with extended classes. I also offer abbreviated classes on Graphite Wash.
I love teaching kids. I homeschooled my children until they started high school. In recent years I taught children's art classes at Peninsula Art Academy and currently private classes at local libraries.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students are asked to bring a few samples of their work to the first class so I can assess where their strengths are and what are their subjects of interest in drawing/painting. I work alongside the students completing the same exercises for the majority of the time spent with them. This causes them to feel less intimidated and self-conscious.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a self-taught artist, except for taking several art classes in my high school years, I've utilized tutorial books.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Classes are 1 1/4 hr. and $40 for private classes scheduled 2x/month. The extended time is more beneficial than a shorter ending time that interrupts the instruction.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught homeschool groups several years ago. After being a volunteer and local artisan at the Peninsula Art Academy, I was encouraged to teach adult and children classes. My desire is teaching children since I started drawing at a very young age and see the benefit of the classes I teach if I would've had this instruction. Parents are excited about what they see their children accomplishing.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students ages 8-20 of all backgrounds and skill levels. I've also had students who are pursuing an art degree.

The annual Akron Art Expo.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what your objectives are along with the instructor's approach to see if it may be a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I tell my students that no question is to unimportant to ask and inquiring is a positive sign they want to learn.
