I'm a self taught artist and teach children ages 10-18. After home-educating my children until they reached high school, I started nannying and teaching graphite drawing. From 2013-2020 I taught children's classes at Peninsula Art Academy in Peninsula, small groups, one-on-one instruction, and currently private lessons at local libraries.
"Improve Your Skills" was a course I put together to benefit the young budding artist - those who spend time drawing/sketching, but my hands-on approach is also rewarding for the beginner as well. Young artists will be inspired by receiving instruction in gray scale, shading, blending, texture, and different techniques using a range of pencils. Composition, balance and perspectives will be taught with extended classes. In addition, I offer classes on Graphite Wash, colored pencil, and watercolor pencil.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students are asked to bring a few samples of their work to the first class so I can assess where their strengths are, and what are their subjects of interest in drawing. I work alongside the students completing the same exercises for the majority of the time spent with them. This causes them to feel less intimidated and self-conscious.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a self-taught artist, except for taking several art classes in my high school years, and I've utilized tutorial books.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Classes are 1.5 hr./$40 for private classes scheduled 2x/month. The extended time is more beneficial than a shorter ending time that interrupts the instruction. Classes can be shortened to 1.25hr./$35 upon request.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught homeschool groups several years ago. After being a volunteer and local artisan at the Peninsula Art Academy, I was encouraged to teach adult and children classes. My desire is to offer drawing classes to children since I started at a very young age. I see their skills improve when they learn how to use their drawing tools along with blending techniques and textures. Parents are excited about what they see their children accomplishing.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students ages 8-20 of all backgrounds and skill levels. I've also had students who are pursuing an art degree.

The annual Akron Art Expo and school art shows.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what your objectives are along with the instructor's approach to see if it may be a good fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I tell my students that no question is too unimportant to ask and inquiring is a positive sign they want to learn.
