About

I'm an independant illustrator with a flexible style. I've worked on everything from bookcovers to business cards and I'm always on the hunt for new and interesting projects. So when it comes to teaching, I would encourage my students to be open to change and be open to the dips and peaks that their artistic pursuits will take them.

I'm very much of the Pixar style of critiquing, which is built to encourage creativity rather than breaking someone down. Art is supposed to be a freeing experience, not one that stresses you out or bars you from feeling at all.

There's a lot to love when it comes to art, the variety and depth is can take. The realization that everything from the pill bottle in your cabinet to the car that you drive to the building you go to work in has, at some point, been a drawing on someone's peice of paper, a design made real.

Art, like math, is truely everywhere humans go. It is as much a part of our history and state of being as it is climb of an exhausting mountain.

When it comes to my students, I can be little more than a guide on these narrow foot trail, where so many have trodden before. At the end of the day, it is them who will rise to their own great expectations.

    Frequently asked questions

My first step would be to figure out what are they looking to do, what artists inspire them, what schools or jobs they would like to have, what do they like to do.

Second step, building a general map for them to take. What basics should they hone in on, like shape and color theory. What programs or mediums they should use, photoshop or painting. What schools of thought and research they should familiarize themselves with, abstraction, realistic, periods of history or genres that most interest them. And so on.

Third would be guided practice, putting the previous two steps to the test and adjusting course as the student becomes more familiar with their own skills, strengths, and weakness.

I studied animation for 5 years and earned my degree in 2015, and I've been a freelance illustrator for 9 streight out of highschool. I've been working for myself and others for a long, long time and have garnered enough skill to confidently say I could possibly teach someone else.
