About

I offer personalized oil painting lessons using direct and indirect painting methods. Students explore various creative pathways, painting styles, and genres. From figurative, to landscape, to abstract and surrealism, students are encouraged to experiment. I supply all materials and instruction at my studio at the Milo Arts building in Columbus, Ohio.

I received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in December 2017 and exhibited in the Fall BFA Show at the Sullivan Galleries in Chicago. I chose the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as they are consistently listed among the top ten art and design schools in the US. I received world-class instruction from the classical painter, Susan Kraut, surrealist painter, Tony Phillips, and the abstract painter, Richard Hull. I've also exhibited my work at Ballroom Projects in Chicago. In addition to the aforementioned, I've received awards and degrees at the University of North Georgia and am a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar.

Teri is such a talented artist! It’s one thing to create beautiful art; it’s another to be able to teach it and she does an amazing job. I highly recommend her; I had such a fun learning experience!

    Frequently asked questions

Painting classes are individually designed based on the student's current skill level and body of knowledge. Newer students might begin with value studies while more experienced students may need tips on composition and design. One-on-one instruction is given.

I have a BFA from the School of the Art Institute in Painting and Creative Writing. I also hold Associate's Degrees from the University of North Georgia in both Studio Art and Secondary Education.

Classes are a minimum of 3 hours and my fee is $75 ($25 hour, includes materials). All levels will be accommodated; however weekly meetings will offer students the most development. After your first painting lesson, it is recommended to reserve your spot the following week to ensure consistency in your progress. If you choose only one painting class for pointers and direction that is fine as well; however, regular students will be given priority in appointment scheduling.

I tutored writing in college and volunteered tutoring ESL students as well. I hold associates degrees in both studio art and secondary education and have always been an active and vocal participant in group critiques. Because artists learn from other artists, critique is a major component of teaching.

I've worked with all ages of students who wanted to improve either their drawing or painting skills.

As of Jan. 1, 2019, I became a resident of the Milo Arts Community of Columbus, Ohio.

If you are serious about becoming studying oil painting select a teacher who teaches to your skill and ability level on a personalized level. Most painting classes are groups with very little attention from the teacher. Choose a teacher who appreciates your efforts and encourages your growth as an artist.

Ask if the teacher supplies materials or if students are expected to do so. Quality oil brushes may cost upwards of $30 each, small tubes of oil paint are around $9 each. Students need a variety of brushes and paints. Canvases, sketchbooks, rags, palettes, and turpenoid are all expenses that can take the new student by surprise. Make sure materials are included. Also, if you are participating in a group event ask how much time the teacher will be able to spend with each student individually.
