J.D.Williamson--I am an Award Winning PBS Author,Educational Entertainer, Commercial Artist and Storyteller.I earned my Tuition as a Freelance Artist with the Labor program at Berea College and became a Fine Art Graduate starting my business right out of school since 1987. I now speak to hundreds of students at a time for assemblies and workshops as well as all day visits to schools and community centers sharing creative trade mark secrets. I am also an Artistic/ Motivational /Inspirational Speaker towards Art Creation / Career Pursuits. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask my Private Art lesson students "What do you like to draw,what things are you interested in doing in life and what areas are you having the most difficulty in drawing. Then I share the basic difference between Cartooning and Illustration,that I can train them how to draw realistically and with the Imagination.Then I focus on materials and supplies that they need and how to set up a Studio area for themselves.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recieved a Bachelor of Fine Art Studio degree in the study areas of Life Model Drawing ,Illustration.Cartooning,Oils,Watercolor and Acrylic Painting, Commercial Art,Advertising Art and Logo Deign. I also studied Pottery and Sculpture. I have been a Freelance Educational Art Assembly presenter for schools since 1987. Many of my Private Art Students have gone on to become working artists or teaching art professionals themselves.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Besides their Art supplies and equipment,I require payment in advance for group or individual programs with a contarcted agreement form covering what is to be accomplished in our time together. An exhibit of the the Artist(s) work will be also required upon completion of our time together. One time all day group or individual workshop arrangements are 1000.00 for an entire day plus travel, food and hotel fees depending upon location. 3 hours in the morning 3 in the afternoon and 1 follow up hour in the evening. Individual Rates in my own area range from 25.00 - 100.00 for a starting package of 2 months.
How did you get started teaching?
I took Summer Postions at Camp as Art Instructor,Pottery teacher or Cartooning Class then had a Summer Job Teaching Art at Berea College Summer Arts Program for Children. My late sister was a full time teacher and her work also inspired me to work with children.
