Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I teach Photography for the absolute beginner! First, I evalute your goals and tell you the best way to go about learning them. One on one classes are very hands-on from day one.
I like to evaluate the areas of strengths the person already possesses and begin building from that. In the beginning, I focus less on camera settings than I do on focus, composition, light, etc. Technical skills will be learned as we shoot and can be practiced at home. We do learn all the basics like shooting in manual mode, depth of field, focal planes, proper exposure (possibly flash) and any other requests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a full time portrait photographer in my 7th year of professional photography and own a photography business. I wish to provide lessons so that others can share the joy I have for photography! It is not my main source of income, my photography business is. However, all students will have the opportunity to work with real models or clients, if you want to!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30/ first hour and $20/ additional hours for each session, billed in 30 minute increments. Willing to barter for other services/products.
How did you get started teaching?
Prior to photography, I was a trainer with a chiropractor's office staff and took many educational seminars about different teach methods and styles. I also have formal training with Darden Enterprises where i was a certified trainer for four years. More recently, I have trained many assistants the basic essentials of photography and how to conduct sessions and manage weddings. I teach because I enjoy sharing the knowledge of my life's passion and work in hopes I inspire others to do the same.
