Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If it is photography I start with the basics settings for exposure: ISO, F stop and shutter speed and explain the interrelationship for "proper" exposure.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have attended numerous professional classes and seminars over the years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I like to teach in 2-4 hour increments.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching computer and database classes for over 20 years. My clients are typically corporate customers.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from middle school through retired folks in their 70s. Age is not relevant.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I hired an intern recently who had 5 photography classes at Ohio State University. She told me she learned more on her first day with me than she did in all 5 classes combined.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Work with someone who photographs for a living. While college classes are good if you have a lot of time, you will learn far more from a professional.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Really just to be interested in photography in general. I find that most students (even ones with experience) do not understand some of the basics of photography. I focus on the basics and not theory.
