About this pro

My passion for photography was sparked by my uncle at the age of 12. After earning enough money from many summer lawn mowing jobs, I was able to buy my own 35mm camera and have been photographing ever since. I have been photographing for over 50 years now, but I was not a photographer by profession. I’m now retired from a 40+ year career in Information Technology and am concentrating on capturing fine art landscape and nature images. I also teach photography classes, and photograph real estate, couples, families, high school seniors, and events. What I love about photography is that it's a beautiful melding of something fairly technical that also engages the artistic part of me.  For me, photography is really all about the journey – exploring new places, learning and experimenting with different techniques, and meeting interesting people along the way.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Spending time learning what my student's likes and interests  are, and any goals they may have.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have 50+ years of photography experience. Although I have never been professionally trained, I have significant field experience, passion and an interest in teaching others what I know about the art of photography.

How did you get started teaching?

My professional career of 42 years was information technology. While working for IBM, I developed a speciality in data base science, and when they introduced one of the first relational data base management systems I stated teaching IBM customers how to implement and use the software. As I approached retirement, I began teaching photography classes at Midwest Photo Exchage in Columbus and later at the Dublin Community Recreation Center in Dublin, OH as part of their adult programs.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all photography skill level students from beginner to advanced.
