FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Evaluate present level and interests. Work to determine learning styles that are effective. Provide activities that enable success as well as activities that provide challenge.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Bachelor of Music Education

29 years as an educator.

The last 10 years consecutive private instruction.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Current as of 7/2017

$20 per half hour

Music costs and concert fees are additional as needed/desired.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching privately after college, but took some years away from private instruction until I sensed God drawing me to connect with the community in greater ways. I returned to private teaching by joining a friend's studio. Before too long our clientele had grown to such a point that it made sense to operate separately to give each of us more space.

What types of students have you worked with?

All ages, all levels, including special needs students.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I got to see the musical "Hamilton" in Chicago. Non-stop energy, diverse music, interesting story... Wow!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for a positive learning environment and subject expertise. Diverse student population is often a sign of a teacher who isn't set on one style of teaching, but adapts to different learning styles.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

How much time will you invest?

What are your goals for private study?

How do you learn best?

What styles of music do you especially enjoy?
