Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We like to have our new students come in for an initial interview to meet the teacher they will be working with. We do our best to pre-interview them via phone or email to get the best fit. Once the interview process is completed, we get them going with weekly lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our teachers vary in experience levels - please read more about each one on our site.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our lessons start at $30.00 per lesson, and are billed monthly at $120 per month.
How did you get started teaching?
The Schwartz School of Music was started in 2012 by Allene Schwartz. After many years running her own private studio, she opened the doors for more teachers and students to come together and Make Music Happen.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, skill and ability levels. We love adult learners and have teachers trained to work with students on the autism spectrum as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every year, we hold 3 concerts for our students. My favorite is in the spring, at a rock venue. We also hold one in the early fall, and one during the holiday season.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure that you can communicate with them, but also that they're not just your friend. Teachers should have some degree of separation from friends. I've seen too often a student not make any progress, but stick with a teacher because they like each other. It's good to like your teacher, but you should feel like they are your teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals?
How much time can you commit to your instrument?
What style of music interests you?
