About

Please note:

Lessons.com charges me for any student that submits an inquiry. Please only submit an inquiry if you are seeking ONLINE violin or cello lessons (no viola, no other instruments) and interested in long term, ongoing weekly lessons scheduled at the same day and time each week. I do not offer bi-weekly or once-a-month lessons. Please check off the “can be done over the phone or internet” option on your inquiry so I know you’ve read this!

I specialize in working with tweens, teens, and adults who want more than just violin or cello lessons: they want alignment, artistry, and progress they can feel.

My teaching is personalized, technically precise, and rooted in a deep understanding of how to move students into real transformation and unlock their full potential.

Whether you're transferring from another teacher, preparing for a conservatory track, starting as a serious beginner, or have a gifted child who feels out of place in a kid-focused program, I work with students who want a teacher that actually sees them.

With over 14 years of experience, I help students build confident, expressive playing through proper alignment, healthy technique, and a strong foundation in classical solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire. My students have earned top chairs in school and extracurricular orchestras-and more importantly, they leave each lesson feeling seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

So many things to like about working with VF Strings! Ms. Floyd makes every lesson so personal. She is always assessing my goals and crafting the lesson to lead me to success. Her expertise and creativity inspire me. She is a truly gifted artist and a master teacher. When teaching a technique, if the original approach is not working, she has many other ideas! I didnt start playing until 18 months ago at the age of 57 and I cant imagine that I will ever stop. Join us! She is FABULOUS!!!

    Frequently asked questions

The process is different with everyone, as everyone's experiences and needs are unique. Ultimately, understanding your history, identifying your goal, and forming an action plan applies to everyone. Working as a team with trust and understanding will lead you to success.
I have 20 years of playing experience and 14 years of teaching experience. With teaching, I've seen it all. I have helped my students overcome their challenges and hurdles, getting to their goals so much quicker than they imagined was possible. I tend to see the hidden details, which is often the missing piece when someone is "stuck." I love the process as we encounter many breakthroughs.
My studio operates on a monthly payment basis for lessons, and packages for short-term coaching.
I began teaching super early. I was an advanced player who was recognized as a leader with great communication skills in the orchestra I was in. My conductor at the time recommended me to tutor students who were struggling, and it all fell into place from there as I continued to study with my private teachers alongside my teaching too.
I have taught every age and ability level; young children, pre-teens, teens, adults, older adults, and everyone in between. My youngest student was 3 years old, and my oldest student was in her 70's. I will always coach in a way the student can understand based on their age and experience.
Summer of 2021, I started a local Chamber Music Quartet program in my studio. I arranged and coached groups of string quartets, and after 9 weeks of rehearsals, we put on a performance in a local park for our studio families and community members. This program continues to run annually as it is something everyone in the studio looks forward to. It is such an amazing transformation to see everyone grow as musicians as they learn to play together. We touch upon nearly every aspect of musicianship and have so much fun performing!
Have them define "technique" for you. If they are giving you exercises in a book without analyzing your set up and foundation, look elsewhere. Find someone who can transform your set-up if you are physically uncomfortable playing, or struggling more than what seems right. It's not supposed to be difficult, tiring, or painful. In addition to the technicals, find someone who speaks to your heart and sees you for what you want to become. This mirroring aspect will help hold you accountable to achieve your goals. If you are seriously considering majoring in music at a conservatory, make sure your teacher knows how to guide you through that process or at least prepare you to get to the pre-conservatory level in a timely manner. Ask if they have any experience working with gifted & talented individuals or whatever your unique circumstances or specific learning needs are.
What is my ultimate goal? What motivates me, and what type feedback am I looking for? What would help get me progress to the next level that I want to achieve?
