About
I want to create a learning environment to teach archery for leisure, competition, hunting or as a sport-related activity. My goal is for everyone to discover that archery is a great activity for people of all ages from 6 to 80. No matter what your physical ability is, archery is a learned skill that can be accomplished and mastered by almost anybody. My hope is that everyone will find this a relaxing activity that focuses the mind and sharpens an individual's physical dexterity.
I like seeing the people I work with reach their goals. I'm a real believer in solid fundamentals. I remember when I was learning how to shoot. I had no help and got really frustrated. I want to remove that frustration so my students and the sport can continue to grow.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I specifically instruct compound or recurve bow archery for target shooting, 3D shooting and hunting. His style is one-on-one so that a day's session can be customized to correct and develop the individual's skills. The basis for my coaching is to develope a solid shooting form, shot execution, and building the mental game behind successful shooting. I also work with my students to properly size and tune their equipment to perform at it's best.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

- Tune-up coaching can take one to six sessions depending on how much work is necessary.
- Structured coaching is typically bi-weekly or weekly for an extended period of time.
- Group sessions can depend on what the group/organization wants to accomplish with their coaching.
How did you get started teaching?
Over the years I have worked hard to improve my scores and abilities.I never had access to any type of training or coaching. Through trial and error I became very frustrated with my slow progress. It is because of this experience I wanted to help other people become better at archery without going through the frustration I did. This is the reason I became a coach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children as young as 6 years old to adults in their 80's shooting either compound or recurve (Olympic style) bows. I also have worked with people who have disabilities.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The student should know clearly what they want to accomplish. John will help guide the archer with setting their goals and the time it will take to achieve them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They need to have a clear understanding of what they want to accomplish and how far they want to take the sport of archery. For example, instruction for tuning up for a better hunt or 3D shooting is a completely different regimen than the one required to go to NFAA nationals.
