Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I schedule classes, posted at OKCFIREARMSTRAINING.com and at Stand Ready Defense on Facebook, but I am also available for one-on-one private instruction. I tailor the curriculum for each individual shooter, as this is the fastest way to improve skill.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While in law enforcement, I helped train a 120 person department and was an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor
I compete in USPSA matches and achieved a skill rating of GrandMaster. I've won over 50 State and Regionsl titles
I've taken and continue to take classes offered by other competent instructors, some famous, others not do much. I keep abreast of the latest teaching and shooting techniques available and incorporate any elements that improve how I instruct.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Group class prices vary, from $49 to $100
Private instruction is $75 an hour with a two hour minimum. Package prices are available which will save you money.
You can "try before you buy." Take one lesson, then if you like how it went, put that lesson money towards package pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
I discovered many people teaching others how to shoot cannot shoot very well themselves. If they're incapable of recognizing their shortcomings or fail to improve their own shooting skills, how can they teach others? But there are many "instructors" out there doing exactly that
Shooting is a life long passion for me. I want to instill safe gun handling and good marksmanship skills in others.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with teenagers, folks in their 80's, men, women and everyone in between.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at their willingness to shoot in front of the students. If they refuse to shoot in front of you, find somebody who will AND perform to at least the level they're asking of you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If a student seeks instruction on learning how to use a gun for defense, the student must first ask themselves if they are willing and able to kill someone who's trying to kill them.
if not, buy pepper spray and call it good.
