About
It seems like I've been making art (and crafts & music) since I could hold a crayon and hear a lullabye. Honestly, I don't remember a time when I didn't think of myself as an artist. I'm a country girl, so that meant 4H and the local grange hall. My grandmother and mom led us 4H'ers and every Tuesday night we met at grandma's for our meetings. Where we created, crafted, baked, preserved, painted, trained and learned from our elders experiences and considerable wealth of knowledge. All in preparation for that one week in August when our work would be judged against the work of 4H kids across the county at the Skamania County fair. I think those childhood experiences instilled in me a great curiosity and love for learning that drives my creativity. It gave me confidence and proof that if I do the work and practice I can accomplish almost anything. I've used all manner of artistic medium, materials, and techinique. Too many to list here. But of my many skills and God given talents, the ability to help people overcome their fears and self-doubts enough to believe that they can learn and do, play, and explore. Watching them satisfy their art's desire and seeing them discover their inner artist is very fulfilling for me.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If possible I like my students to take some time to think about their goals and what they want to learn. How deeply do they want to explore their creativity? Is it a project that they want to complete in a session or two or do they want to be an artist. The lesson plan depends entirely on the answer to that question. The artist needs to be knowledgeable about the fundementals, of art and design, principles and elements, color theory, composition, perspective, shading, style art genre, materials, equipment, and techniques for the chosen medium.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited college and a lifetime of practicing and learning. I have an extensive library of art, design, architecture, crafting, gardening, sewing, woodcarving, art history, books about design fundementals, composition, color theory, perspective, just to name a few. Some are informational and many are how-to books. I've watched videos and taken online classes and tutorials. I've used every kind of drawing and painting medium and techinque there is including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, markers, watetcolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, airbrush, acrylic pouring, tie dyeing, wood carving and more.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20.00 an hour but offer a price break for ongoing lessons of Ten or more.
