    Frequently asked questions

We encourage new students to take a free trial lesson with us so we can learn more about you and your learning needs.

Our Lesson Coordinator works closely with you to make your experience as convenient as possible.

Students develop a strong musical foundation in private lessons. Once reaching a basic proficiency, students have the opportunity to participate in various musical groups to sharpen their skills and make new friends along the way.

Our Director Tyler Willson has nearly 15 years of teaching and program building experience.

After eight bands, countless concerts and hundreds of recordings, Tyler's true calling has always been education. Tyler prides himself on creating musical opportunities wherever possible to enhance the learning experience of his students.

Tyler is the co-founder of several projects aimed at helping his local community, including:

    • The Sherwood Bucket Brigade: A percussion ensemble that turns routine daily objects into engaging musical experiences.

    • Guitar Ensemble: Our partnership with the Sherwood Center for the Arts gives students the chance to play and perform alongside their peers.

    • The Utah State University Youth Music Project: a student led movement which educates and exposes elementary children to the musical arts.

    • The Carbon High Drumline: A drum ensemble that coordinated with nearby high schools to put on elaborate halftime shows and drum battles.

    • The Carbon Guitar Studio: A partnership with the county and the Boys and Girls Club to provide music education in response to music programs cut in local schools.

As a USU graduate and member of the MTNA and OMTA, Tyler now brings his experience and enthusiasm for music education to Tigard, Oregon.

    FAQ

Q: I have two kids who want lessons. How would I do this?

A: Lesson times can be split or combined. For example.

Scenario 1: If two students want private lessons seperatly. Schedule weekly 60 minute sessions and have them take 30 minutes each independantly. Total cost= $50 per week.

Scenario 2: If two students want lessons, but your budget is tight. Schedule weekly 30 minute sessions and have them take the lessons together simultaneously. Total cost= $35 per week. *If the age gap is too far apart, we typically do not recommend this.

    Q: How does billing work?

A: Invoices are sent to your email at the beginning of each month via Quickbooks. Lessons can't be given on credit and must be paid in advance before lessons are given.

When I was 16 years old, my guitar teacher informed me that he was moving away to continue music school at the University of Utah. After which he requested that I take over his music studio, assuring me I was destined to teach. The rest is history.

My teaching experience has been very interesting so far! I once worked for a music studio in Florida where many of our students were celebrities and their family, including a Turkish pop idol. Very cool!

We recently launched our Bucket Drumming and Guitar Ensembles. Can't wait to see what our students come up with!

Find a teacher that can get down on your level and help you grow a passion for learning.

When I was a student, I learned from some of the best musicians in my state and their high expectations nearly caused me to quit music all together.

My favorite teachers have never held a degree or could play at a high level. What they did do is put me first and help me develop a love for learning. That did more for me than any impressive education ever could and ultimately formed the teaching philosophy I live by.

First off, if you know what you want to do, tell your teacher. A good teacher will know how to get you there. But be prepared, some things on your instrument can take a long time to learn and a good teacher will be honest about this. Keep a list of songs or techniques you'd like to visit when you are ready.

If you don't know what to do when you start, that's okay. We all start somewhere, and your teacher will help you take your first steps. In time, your goals and interests will reveal themselves as you progress.

Remember, goals set between you and your teacher should be small and achievable. Our teachers will help you develop the plan you need to suceed!
