Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With all new students, we discuss their interests and previous experience with painting. "Painting" may be something that a person has always wanted to try, and they need guidance choosing the medium (watercolor, acylic or oil) that best suits their interests. For these students, we find a starting point then find the class that is right for them.
Other new students may have had previous painting experience, and want to explore new techniques and paint with a group.
It does not matter what level, each student is encouraged to explore and enjoy the painting process.
My classes are very flexible. They consist of 3 hrs workshops. I teach a brief lesson each class, but the majority of the time, you are painting. The atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Many moons ago, I received a Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Massachusetts. I have been painting, off and on, since that time. I began my journey as a textile designer, then a Watercolorist, then moved to Oil Painting. I feel very comfortable in both mediums. I also have students painting in acrylic , being akin to oil and watercolor...many of the same concepts of value, balance, composition, apply.
I taught classes privately for years before opening the Studio. The Studio offers the best of both worlds. The classes are small enough ( 6 - 7 people maximum) to get individual attention, yet large enough to become inspired by those around us.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are given in blocks of approx. 6 weeks (depending on the season.) All lessons are 3 hours long. Since I teach adults, and we all have busy lives, I have flexible make-up days for missed classes.
What types of students have you worked with?
I love beginners! I love intermediate! I learn so much by joining in their thinking process. Every student brings their unique voice to class. For me, it is a joy and an honor to be part of their artistic journey.
