Bushi and Brush is an arts dojo. Using the twofold path this team of sisters teach both karate and art lessons.
Joanna Becker is a freelance illustrator and 1st-degree black belt. Currently attending PCA&D for a degree in illustration with a special focus on medieval art, she has a passion for teaching.

Jessica Becker is a freelance graphic artist and writer, 2nd-degree black belt with the title of sensei. A SCAD graduate, she has a special focus on sequential art and the combination of stories with artwork.
Teaching is one of the best ways to learn. We love being able to help clients and students achieve their goals to be able to set new ones. Being a part of helping someone going through the same artistic hurdles we went through is one of the most enjoyable aspects of our school.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, we like to talk about their goals as an artist. What would they like to be able to accomplish and in what medium? Then, after an assessment of their current artwork, we start building towards the goals they want to achieve.
With small classes, everyone gets 1 on 1 training to enhance their skills and target any problems.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Both Jessica and Joanna have taught art classes before moving to Lancaster. Now, they have a new array of techniques and teaching methods under their belts to help others learn.
Their art skills are combined with discipline, principals, and philosophies from their karate training. This way, each student will be able to not only create great art in class, but also have the ability to use what they learned outside of our school.

Yes! During this time, we are teaching art lessons online. We are focusing on single student lessons, with in-depth critiques during weekly meetings.
One 25$ lesson is a custom assignment, a one-hour weekly meeting going over the assignment and sharing resources during the constructive critique, and any emails to help as needed between meetings. Assignments will be based on your goals, current work, and needs as an artist.
Our martial arts classes are on hold for the time being.
