Bob Barford Photography
About
I take pride in each of my images and strive to make each image show the impact that it deserves. When working with clients, it is important to know where they stand. What do they wish to accomplish, rather than a 'canned' approach to a certain subject. Respecting what a person may know, and how they wish to grow with their skills is an important part of my approach. I have 8 years of portrait experience, with another 10+ in landscape and animal photography.
I have taught in the medical field as well as within photography, and watching people develop skills that provides confidence and pride is fullfilling. I am a published photographer and have recieved several awards of recognition through sites such as Viewbug. I think however when someone posts an image that they show pride in shows that I have in some part, helped this person develop in their confidence and skill sets.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step is to determine what a person's goals may be, what experience or skills, and what equipment they may have access to.
Following that, I develop an individualized plan to help a student develop their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While in the medical field, I specialized in education and conducted individualized classes as well a larger scale presentations to a wide variety of audiences.
I received college based education in photography, as well as have developed several printed and electronic aids to aid in understanding. I am very skilled in various modules of Microsoft office, including powerpoint to facilitate training.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing for my services typically start with a 2 hour minimum session. Additional charges may occur based on distance traveled or the need to provide highly specialized equipment.
How did you get started teaching?
I have began teaching in the medical field, to allow individuals develop critical skills necessary care for patients. This grew to photography as I learned that sometimes making an image requires not only artistic vision, but also some skill and planning.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with absolute beginners, to very experienced people needing just a little extra knowledge a how to perform one specific skill.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have spent time at quite a few events, and the better events allow time for hands on experience with participants not being rushed to produce but rather coached on workflow.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A new student will want teacher with some level of experience, however not always a busy professional. The teacher needs to take the time to assess individual needs, rather to come into a situation with a pre-set rigid outline.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Questions to think about include what do I really want to accomplish in a very realistic manner. Does a student know the very basics of their camera? Does the student have the time and resources to learn new skills?
