What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I do a consultation to see what their goals in art are and see what skill level they are already at. I can then formulate lessons catered specifically for their needs and grow their skillset from there.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise to check out the teaching artist's artwork to see if it aligns with the art you want to grow to create.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Some suggestions are: What type of art do I wish to create? What artists or what kinds of art inspire me? What would I like to express in my art? These are just prompts/suggestions to bring out your inner artistic voice. Don't feel bad if you can't answer them right away.
