I have been private teaching for more than 10 years and I’m also a certified music teacher! I work with all experience levels from beginner to advanced. I want to make sure you get the most out of these lessons so I’m up for teaching anything and everything you’d like to learn. My goal for most of my students, is to have a solid foundation of musical knowledge so they can play/read anything they want.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is a trial lesson. Typically this means that I ask about what the student has played before (if anything) and have them play a short piece of music. Based on their playing ability, I develop a plan that suits the students' needs. If they haven't played anything at all, I will show the student how to get a good sound and a few notes to play a simple folk song.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I currently have a B. A. in Music Education from West Chester University and have been private teaching for 10+ years. I've been playing/studying the saxophone for 26 years, the piano for 10 years and the clarinet for 7 years. I'm currently teaching students on the instruments listed above and know multiple ways to adjust my teaching based on the students needs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I teach 30, 45 and 60 minute lessons which are paid on a monthly basis. The prices are based on an average of 4 lessons a month.
30 minute lessons= $40 per lesson or $160 per month
45 min. lessons= $50 per lesson or $200 per month
60 minute lessons= $70 per lesson or $280 per month
How did you get started teaching?
A few people that I've met either at work or school knew that I played saxophone and asked if I would want to teach them or their kids. Once I started, I knew this is the career path that I wanted.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and various skill sets. I've worked with students that have had no formal music training and students that have a good foundation, but need some assistance with progressing their musical abilities and knowledge.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Every year I host at least 1 studio recital for my students. July 13th '22 was probably the most special one for me because I was able to involve all of my students in a completely different way. Usually recitals are when students perform something they have been working on individually, but for this recital, I was able to arrange/create music where all of my students can perform together in a large ensemble. All of my students had a blast and I can't wait to continue this for future performances.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have not only have a passion for playing, but a passion for teaching. Ask questions about what to expect with lessons and what their level of expertise is. If you think that they're a good fit from your conversation, schedule a trial lesson to see what they're like when teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If they are a parent:
-Is my child interested in playing an instrument?
-Can I afford lessons and renting an instrument (if necessary)?
-Does my child have the ability to practice at home?
If they are an adult paying for themselves:
-What do I want to be able to accomplish when learning the instrument?
-What style of music do I want to play?
-Do I want lessons long term (more than a year) or short term (anywhere from 1-6 months)?
-Can I afford lessons?
