Philly Firearms Academy
About
The educators at Philly Firearms Academy realize that there isn't a "one size fits all" approach to teaching firearms and pride themselves on treating every student as an individual learner with specific needs and approaches to learning. This customized approach to teaching produces incredible results in very little time while ensuring the highest levels of safety.
We opeate under the guiding beliefs that along with the constitutional right of owning a firearm comes the moral, legal and ethical RESPONSIBILITY of knowing how to properly handle and maintain that firearm. That quality training is the cornerstone of firearms proficiency and that these skills can be promoted in a safe, enjoyable, and relaxed atmosphere.
We realize how little valuable information exists to guide new shooters and know how difficult and frustrating the process of attempting to find quality firearms instruction can be, and we are here to help, educate and guide our sttudents through every step of the process.
One of the things we enjoy the most is seeing the literal transormation of those new to firearms from timid and fearful to empowered, safe and confident handlers and gun owners.

How did you get started teaching?
The Academy is the brainchild of US Army Veteran, Master Firearms Instructor José Morales. Instructor Morales officially established Philly Firearms Academy (PFA) in 2010 after teaching firearm safety and handling in a number of capacities and realizing that Philadelphia needed a hometown resource that specialized in educating and guiding its firearms owners. Since its inception, PFA has trained and guided thousands - from those new to the process of purchasing their first gun to long-time gun owners, military and law enforcement professionals, and everyone in between.
What types of students have you worked with?
We've trained and guided thousands - from those new to the process of purchasing their first gun to long-time gun owners, military and law enforcement professionals, and everyone in between.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Unfortunately, many firearms instructors are simply gun enthusiasts who play the role of "teaching what they think you should know" and not educators specializing in teaching students what they need to know and addressing the reasons that brought the student to the classroom, to begin with. Thoroughly research potential instructors to ensure that they are officially and currently certified with valid credentials and authorized to teach the discipline they will be teaching. Finally, make sure they are personable, and able to answer your questions clearly and free of political bias and firearm industry rhetoric.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why am I seeking firearms training and how would that training benefit me and my loved ones in the event I had to use a firearm and potentially defend my actions in a court of law?
