About
I love music, I love teaching, and I have been involved in many areas of music-making and education for a very long time - over 35 years. I love literally all kinds of music - every genre, style and historical period. I am very student-centered: I want to meet the needs, interests and goals of each student. I am constantly learning myself, including from my students, as well as from my constant listening, reading and studying. I am a full-time performing, songwriting and recording musician, and I work as a teaching artist doing songwriting residencies in schools.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start by finding out what a new student wants to get out of our work together, and what kind of experience they have. I don't come in with a rigid curriculum - I want to start from the students' level, tastes and goals and go from there. I create lessons tailored to the particular student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in music composition from Oberlin Conservatory, and I have also taken graduate school courses in music education, including Orff certification classes level I & II. I have been teaching music classes and lessons for over 35 years - I started when I was a high school student. I was a music teacher in PS-8th grade schools for 6 years, and I have also taught music at various music schools (including Settlement Music School) and early childhood settings. I have been a full-time performer, songwriter and recording artist for 22 years. I also do work as a teaching artist, conducting songwriting residencies in schools. In the last few years, I have been teaching music appreciation classes for various continuing education programs, including Temple University Ambler, Cheltenham Township Adult School, and Mt. Airy Learning Tree.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30 for 1/2 hr.; $50 for 1 hour
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children as young as 3 years old up through seniors and every age in between. I have taught individuals and classes, in urban, rural and suburban settings. I have worked with a wide diversity of students in many categories, including a couple of high school exchange students from China.
