Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I analyze where they are by reveiwing some of their work. I ask them what they want from the lessons. Then I map out the journey as they develop at their pace, guiding them and honing their skills as they progress and develop their work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with honors from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a degree in printmaking and painting. I also sculpt, create mixed media and collaged pieces. I have won awards for watercolor, oil, acrylic, printmaking and collages. I have always loved working with a multitude of materials and techniques to acheive interesting and unique works of art.
I have also studied at Cleveland Institute of Art and Iconography through the Prosporon School. I have a well rounded education from the classical traditions through to the abstract personal expression that I create today.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge by the hour or project if we are doing a special project. Some advanced students prefer to come in for a critique once a month as they want to make sure they are on a steady path or feel they need help with a troubled section on a piece and others with no experience want to start at the very beginning and come for lessons once or twice a week.
How did you get started teaching?
I started over 30 years ago when a mother of a child came to me and said" My daughter only likes art. Nothing else interests her. Can you teach her what she wants to know? She was 12 or 13 at the time and I taught her art straight through high school and then when she was in college during the summers. After her I worked with many students of all ages. I had a gentileman who was a 84 year young retired police captain who always wanted to "do art" as he put it. He came once a week. First for drawing, then painting and finally mixed media and collage which he took to like a duck in water. He loved cutting pasting and creating unusual combinations of people . He create them until he was no longer able.
What types of students have you worked with?
Young, Old, and bright, autistic, challenged, and emotionally needing art for healing everything in between. Art has no limits nor do I when it comes to helping my students see and develop. I do have one requisite and that is for them to want to create and to love to or have a desire to make art.
