What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Finding out their interests and vision. Technical skill can develop over time with practice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Sciece in Art Education with an Art Hisory minor as well as a Master of Arts in Humanities with a Film Studies concentration. I have also sold various work and shown in many galleries, mostly along the East Coast.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It depends on location of the student but the price is lower if they come to my home studio. The prices are low compared to many one on one and group instruction as I have two other means of income.
How did you get started teaching?
I was encouraged by my Advanced Placement teacher in high school. I also helped raise my two younger brothers whose father had passed which trained my in various communication skills with various ages.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kids. From autistic to advanced to behavioral support students of all financial, ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Painting a mural at Underground Arts in Philadelphia in honor and memory of my good friend Todd Marrone, who painted the interior and made their widely recognized logo.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be open to a balance of both traditional and personal approaches. You can learn from other artists but also keep challenging and teaching yourself.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is there a certian style or media that he or she would like to become more comfortable with.
