Although I am classically trained in painting from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and have undergraduate degrees from University of Pennsylvania, I teach as an intuitive creative colorist; working with texture, color, composition, line, form, values, light and shade to develop dramatic images with emotional content.
I am known as a landscape painter and abstract painter so I teach both using a variety of creative tools such as a blender to mix paint. In drawing on a wide range of inspiration from nature, using photography and plein air sketches on site, I teach students how to create exciting landscape paintings and also teach methods for going within to paint intuitively and abstractly.
Since 2000, I have taught at numerous local and regional art centers, have taken groups painting in Italy, have taught plein air painting privately and have led team building and creativity workshops under the name of Paintbrush and Palette. I have exhibited and sold my own award winning work under the name Leslie Ehrin Fine Art at U Penn's Burrison Gallery, at Cabrini College, through commercial galleries from Florida to Nantucket,at art centers, fundraising art shows, in art festivals, art fairs, on the web and via corporate art advisory firms worldwide. My paintings are owned by corporate and private collectors on four continents. My work can be seen on facebook under Leslie Ehrin and Leslie Ehrin Fine Art and on LinkedIn.
Further, I teach painting on glass and other substrates beyond canvas. Additionally, I am an award winning children's book author and writer so I combine creative writing and journaling with art making processes in some classes to enhance creative growth. I love helping students find their own creative mode of expression, love helping others learn to paint as I love to, and I enjoy helping students find their own "voice" through making art.
Leslie is a very gifted artist, very friendly and makes you feel very at ease. I believe I will learn a lot about painting, but also about design and composition.
I like to talk to them first about what they have done art wise in the past, when was the last time they painted and I like to learn what goals are. Is this a new hobby or an on going hobby or a lifelong passion? Is the student desirous of learning a new skill or perfecting an existing talent?
I have painted since I was 16 months old as I was the child of a fine artist, illustrator and educator. I painted all of my life and went to grad school at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts after earning Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Art History and English Literature from PENN.
