About

I am a visual art educator and helping young people connect with art is what I am excited about! I have loved exploring and learning about a variety of visual art skills and can help you become confident in drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, illustration, cartooning, observational or representational drawing and more. I have a BFA in Fine arts as well as a MA in Education and years of experience in the art classroom.

I love getting children excited about making art. You all have the ability to come up with good ideas that can be expressed visually. You might enjoy smearing and mixing colors with oil pastels, or rolling, squishing and sculpting with clay. You all have the ability to master lots of different and fun art processes. Together we can explore processes, and develop ways to make your own personal artistic expressions possible.

    Frequently asked questions

First, I would set up a time we can talk about what the child's interests are, and what they hope to learn and try in an art class. We can also discuss past projects or experiences that were fun for the student. From there, I would suggest some ideas, share some lesson samples and artists' works that might inspire the student. We would develop a plan for our first projects, and what art materials to work with together as teacher and student.

I have a BFA in Fine Art and an MA in Education. I have taught art education for Pre-school to 8th grade as well as H.S. learners since 2007. I have designed curriculum, collaborated on school art curriculum, and led independent workshops for many years.

This would be developed with the family, and sometimes depends on the process and time as well as the age of the student.

I began as a TA while earning my BFA in Fine Arts. After I earned my BFA, I learned I could pursue teaching as a career. This was really exciting to me because I love helping kids, and naturally am good with groups of children. I earned my MA in Education with a certificate to teach art, and have been pursuing teaching ever since. I have had lots of diverse teaching experiences and still love teaching kids the most.

I started working with Pre-school 3's, Pre-K 4's, and K-8th in 2007, and have typically had jobs that include most or many of those age levels.

I also design and teach workshops for Lower School, Early Childhood, k-8 and High School learners.

I have worked with private, public, independent and non-profit communities, and am always open-minded when thinking about new clients. I believe every child deserves to know about making art, and to have good experiences with art education.

I am an interim substitute art teacher this year at a private independent school. I recently subbed for a first grade class and was greeted by cheering and lots of overlapping questions about whether I brought clay or paint to work with. These kids love having ideas to express in art, and we have had fun even when Covid limits what we used to be able to do as teachers and learners. The kids also explored self-expression through drawing portraits of what they wish to be when they grow up. I saw artists, and future inventors, doctors and astronauts as inspiring visual representations of the hopes of kids in 2021 through art making.

I would talk to the student and their parents about the students' hopes for our art classes. Be sure to think about the types of art you have tried, things you would like to know more about in visual art, and what your interests are. I would also say to keep an open mind and maybe hearing about drawing, painting or sculpture would be a new fun experience to try ! If you aren't sure what types of art are out there, feel free to say you don't know, and we can talk about different types of art that might be fun for you.

What am I good at in art class?

What am I interested in learning about at school?

What is art? Who makes art? What can we use to make art?

What skills or different types of art would I like to learn more about? Have you ever been to an art museum, what do you remember?
