What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Inquiring about interests and goals in developing artistic experience is important in order to establish a focus in the beginning. Understanding what artistic experiences enjoyed is helpful in designing lessons that are encouraging, challenging, and success driven.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor of Art in Visual Arts Management. As well as over 20 years of experience teaching art.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Lessons are priced by the hour, and based on a supply cost for materials I provide. Travel distance costs will also be factored in as necessary.

How did you get started teaching?

My first experiences teaching began in high school when I was selected as a paid teacher assistant and began visiting classrooms in Arlington County Schools. I was tasked with reading to elementary students and assisting them during class.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with a diverse range students from Pre-k through quite possibly 100 years of age in elder care communities. This includes individuals who are differently abled including sight, hearing, autism spectrum, to name a few.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Serving as a Science Fair Judge about a week ago, it was pleasant to be welcomed to the evening event with dinner and ample time to chat with other judges. In preparation for judging, we were prepared ahead of time by being given an example of materials to look over before the event. There were detailed examples of how to carry out the judging process. The science fair exhibitors were well prepared and also knew what to expect from judges. It was a worth while, experience.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Ask yourself what motivated you to seek guidance. Think of what goals you would like to accomplish. Be open to allowing the creative process to evolve naturally.
