About
My services are holistic. I am a nutrition and wellness coach, yoga teacher, a certified professional life coach and a personal trainer. Although I started as a personal trainer only when I first transitioned out of academia, I soon realized the relationship between the mind and body and that life issues can impact a client's ability to maintain or live a healthy lifestyle. Therefore I now offer services in yoga, nutrition and life coaching. Interestingly my prior experience as a cancer researcher ( assistant professor) provided me many, many opportunities to mentor peers and students with regard to career and related professional development, relationships and stress as a result many life coach clients approach specifically for these additional areas and this arm of my business continues to grow and expand.
I constantly work to increase the value I provide to customers by expanding my knowledge base through classes and research. I want to bring my clients the most.
With regard to personal training I am willing to travel to my clients and bring equipment to their homes to maximize the impact of the training.
I am also insured.
I also work with clients to fit their budget.
I really like helping others and I enjoy helping others reach their personal goals. It gives me great pleasure to join others on their individual paths to increased fitness and wellness and overall happiness. I love watching and helping others successfully reach their goals.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have an intro session which consists of a fitness (mostly) and nutrition analysis(after obtaining information from the student) to best determine a strategy for success. For life coaching I consult with potential students over the phone or in person to assess student goals, student commitment to the process and to begin to make a plan to achieve those goals.
For yoga students a phonecall is usually required to really get a handle on the needs and goals and to firm up details.

How did you get started teaching?
I was a cancer researcher for many years. Over time I realized that teaching people habits to prevent disease might be more effective than trying to find drugs.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with peope ranging in age from 18 to 80. I have worked with athletes and people that are new to physical activity. Some of my students have had chronic diseases and injuries that need to be taken into considerations when planning the program.
Life coaching students vary I have worked with students and people well into middle age. I worked with people with career, relationship, stress, confidence and spiritual concerns. I have many years of experience coaching others in a variety of venues.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
It always makes me happy when a student visits a doctor and their bloodwork has improved. I am always excited when students achieve their personal goals and they share them with me. These goals often include weight loss, feeling more energetic, and developing healthy habits.
I also enjoy hearing from students that a reduction in muscles aches, and stress takes place when their is improvement.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions. For personal training make sure the person is certified. Many people are not certified and their advice can hurt you. Don't be afraid to ask about discounts if you want to purchase multiple sessions up front. For life coaching go with your gut, you need to feel comfortable enough to be honest with your coach otherwise you will make sub optimal progress.
For yoga, make sure you know how the session is going to be personalized for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should ask themselves why they are taking lessons, what is important to them? Be prepared to clearly state why you are taking lessons so the teacher can better serve/help you.
