What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is free so that we can see if we are a good fit.
The first lesson serves as an evaluation of what the starting point will be for the student and to see what the students would like to get out of their lessons.
Families are always welcome to sit in on all lessons
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my BS in Music Education from Duquesne University
I have a Masters in Performance from Carnegie Mellon University
I taught public schools for 35 years
I have taught privately for 40 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40 for a 30 minute lesson. (most appropriate lenght for younger students)
$75 for a 60 minute lesson (most appropriate length for students working on adavanced materials)..
How did you get started teaching?
I began giving private lessons and working with marching bands immediately upon graduating from High School and before begining my music education degree.
Since that time I have worked with 100s of students and even 2nd and 3rd generations of students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students that have gone on to become professional musians as well as started 100s of beginers.
My broad experiece makes it easy for me to help students on a wide range of instruments.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At the begining of the pandemic, I initiated a project with students I was working with to create virtual performance.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A very important aspect of the student teacher relationship is compatibility. It is important that the student be relaxed and comfortable with their teacher.
This is why I always offer a free trial lesson.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A students goals will change over time.
It is helpful to give some thought to what you would like to be the outcome(s) of the lesson.
