About

I bring significant professional experience, a thoughtful, engaged approach, and a joyful and relaxed attitude to my teaching.

I will be invested in your growth and joy as a musician!

Music is a beautiful gift from God. It is a joy to listen to it, study it, practice it, and perform it.

The French horn's famous sound as well as its versatility to fit in many different musicial textures and portray various feelings make it unique. Playing it is a challenging but extremely rewarding pursuit.

Every moment of joy and growth I witness in a student is worth all the effort to teach them!

Andrew was very helpful and informative. He helped me advance my playing further on the audition repertoire I took to him. He is very knowledgeable and a great teacher.

As former music educators, my wife and I were looking for a series of advanced/supplemental French Horn lessons for our daughter. Andrew was suggested to us by a friend, and he graciously accepted our daughter as a temporary student. As an observer to the lessons, I found Andrew to be extremely competent, knowledgeable, dedicated, talented, and very willing to provide the information and lessons we were looking for. I would highly recommend him as a horn instructor.

    Frequently asked questions

My goal with each student is to be gracious and kind, clear and productive with my comments.

My focal points in lessons include the following:

    1. Learning student goals, dreams

    2. Nailing down appropriate fundamentals to practice

    3. Identifying books/repertoire which will help the student improve and enjoy playing

    5. Playing together for enjoyment and to build the student's  listening skills and ability to coordinate playing with someone else

In the Pittsburgh area, I perform as a freelancer. Ensembles with which I have worked include the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, and River City Brass Band.

I was contracted as 2nd horn with Symphoria (Syracuse, NY) from 2019-2021 and previously played consistently as a substitute/extra horn with the Columbus Symphony(OH), Canton Symphony(OH), and Akron Symphony(OH).

I have a Master of Music in Horn Performance from Carnegie Mellon University (2016), and a Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from Cedarville University (2014).

In total, fifteen years of focused personal practice on the horn with great teachers advising me has given me a great deal of data about what works and what doesn't!
