About this pro

I have experience as a portrait photographer, photojournalist working for a newspaper, and am an  award-winning fine art photographer. I can help a student learn the basics or more advanced techniques such as studio lighting or outdoor fill flash lighting. I can help students better understand their cameras and help them with post-processing to enhance images.

It is so much fun to be in the middle of a shoot with the creative juices flowing while looking for or waiting for the perfect image. Photography brings instant gratification when one sees the great image on the computer screen. It's always fun working with portrait clients and photography students, as well, either finding the beauty of the subject, or seeing the imaginative work of young students. Photography is so rewarding in so many ways.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Each lesson will be 90-minutes.  I'll go over the topic of the day, and then we will take photos to practice what we covered. If we have time, we'll download your images and talk about them. We can go to various locations around Washington to take photos. A child's or teen's parent is always welcome to join us, and I do have Act 53 clearance to work with children.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a certificate of completion in still photography from Pittsburgh Filmmakers, and have won awards from Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Society of Artists and I've been in many of their juried shows. I have a BA degree in journalism from The Univ. of Colorado School of Journalism, and have much experience as a portrait photographer, fine art photographer, and photojournalist along with many hours both in the darkroom and at the computer working with Adobe Photoshop. I built my business doing hand-colored childrens' portraits which included creation, developing film, printing, hand-coloring, matting and framing.
