About this pro

I teach primarily in oils but the instruction also applies to acrylic painting. Rather than having my students learn a specific style of painting, I believe that all students benefit from learning the fundamentals of good drawing skills, composition, color theory/mixing, and painting application which allows the student to grow and develop in their own individual style of painting. My group lessons are designed to have general instruction, along with personalized instruction with each student while working on individual painting projects. I can also set up private lessons for you, with specifically tailored lesson plans.

I teach both adults and younger students, but my only group classes for younger students are summer camps. I do have younger private students during the school year. I love my students! Some of my adult students have renamed my art classes "art therapy." We share a wonderful camaraderie and are very supportive of each other. In all my classes, I have complete beginners to those who regularly sell their work. Everyone is on their own creative journey and successes and failures are all celebrated equally. We are there to learn, grown and have fun.

She is a wonderful instructor. Sheryl has so much experience, also when you see her beautiful paintings. I am so inspired....I am very thankful that I am able to take lessons with her.

Sheryl is an excellent painting instructor, no matter if you are a beginner who has never painted, or an experienced painter looking to improve. Her class is made up of a brief, practical and meaningful lesson, and then lots of time for self painting. The atmosphere of her studio is great...friendly, fun, but also peaceful and relaxing, a very conducive environment for painting. Sheryl spends time with each student individually on the development of their painting, no matter what stage, and gives positive guidance on how to make it a better painting. She is comfortable and effective at evaluating all styles of painting, from abstract to realism, pallet knife or brush. I have token lessons from Sheryl for about 4 years and I can not believe the progress I have made as a painter in that time!

Sheryl brings an awareness of how to create a scene. The class is relaxing and just enjoyable to learn the different aspects of how a painting comes together. I highly recommend the class to anyone who has not painted before or wants to improve their skills.

Individual and group instruction in a casual, comfortable setting.
