About
I teach from a background of visual storytelling. As a photographer and video producer, I teach both technical detail and creative styling. You will learn how to capture and communicate using a camera. I also teach photoshop basics and advanced classes. I help you achieve masterful results regardless of the camera you use and how to upgrade as you are able without spending a fortune. I’ve produced two collections of stock photography that was used around the world before the proliferation of online libraries. Whether you simply want to take nice pictures, tell a visual story or create your personal style, I’d love to work with you. You’ll see results from the very first lesson!
I enjoy interacting with people and helping them learn as they create.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start by finding out what equipment you have (if you want to use your own) and what your priorities are for learning. Every student will get a brief overview of artistic and technical composition (how do I make a visually pleasing, compelling photo) and then learn their camera of choice. From there, we’ll focus on your chosen area of interest (landscape/journalistic/candid/portraitur/creative/cinematic) and begin shooting on locations. Additionally, we can divide class time to learn photo editing as well. The teaching is a personable and fun experience.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve been trained in photography and cinematography as well as in lighting. I have 30 years experience as a photographer and visual storyteller.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught at a summer arts program in Virginia and have taught many students in the years since.
