Lovestone Art
About
I will teach you the secrets to painting and drawing successfully that I have learned from my many years as an artist. I offer classes for young people in traditional drawing, painting, digital art, video editing, photoshop, and animation.
My name is Harlan Lovestone. I am a professional artist and experienced K-12 educator with over 20 years of experience teaching children and adults.
One does not have to be born with the talent of a great artist to become a great artist. Art is all about closely looking at the world around you to gain ideas and inspiration. Then the rest is all about practice.
In my course, I will show you how to look at the world through the eyes of an artist and how to become a great artist.

I like helping others by sharing my knowledge. Art is a wonderful subject in so many ways. Art is all around us in so many ways and it makes life a little bit better. I enjoy being an advocate for art education.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My teaching method is very straightforward. Before your first class, I will contact you and we will discuss your goals and expectations moving forward. I will develop the course to focus on your needs. Whatever level you are at I will adjust to and guide you to make you a better artist. I place a strong emphasis on drawing and observation because those are the essential keys to good art making that you will rely on time and time again.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an art school graduate. I attended the College for Creative Studies for undergrad and Wayne State University for graduate school. I received a BFA, MA, and MFA in fine arts. I was mentored by the late American abstract expressionist artist Alvin Loving and the late Detroit Cass Corridor artist and professor of painting Gilda Snowden. I was also taught by many other wonderful artists in college.
I have spent many years working with young students and artists and teaching adults.
