What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with materials, techniques and color theory. Once the basics are down then we move onto more in depth understanding of the medium and principles and elements of design. I teach drawing in pencil, charcoal and colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media and encaustic.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional artist represented by several galleries. i have been teaching privately for 14 years in workshops and classes. I have a MFA in Painting. My main medium is encaustic but I have painted in watercolor for 30 years. I also teach drawing, acrylics, and mixed media.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40 an hour for Zoom, $50 an hour in person for private lessons. I am located in Bellevue, TN. Classes can be 1-2 hours long, your preference.
How did you get started teaching?
I am a life long learner and realized I had a passion for teaching right out of college. I started as an adjunct over 25 years ago and after getting my MFA in 2010 started teaching weekly classes and workshops.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages but currently high school, college up to older adults. I was recently certified in the Creative Aging Program as well.
